Sad Linux Client Installation(Ubuntu 18.04)
Hello there,
I've tried installing the Whatpulse linux client on my main machine after switching to linux, after finding out all the dependencies(which were vaguely mentioned on their installation page) I ran the permissions setup, which has finished without any problems. Then there was the real kicker; running whatpulse. After running both the ubuntu and debian versions I only got an error window saying: "Couldn't find system tray, and I need that to run".
If anyone managed to get it set up, can you please share any information as to how to get it running, there were countless threads with no answer other than people reporting similar issues, that nobody developing has addressed.
Thanks for your time,
Blazy

What DE are you using? If it's GNOME, you need to re-enable the tray icons by installing the TopIcons shell extension. https://www.maketecheasier.com/restore-l...ome-shell/

I've been having this problem as well and tried the extension. But got the error

Code:
Although GNOME Shell integration extension is running, native host connector is not detected. Refer documentation for instructions about installing connector.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the extension not working for me, but I took a look at the extension's GitHub page and it's unmaintained.

RE: Linux Client Installation(Ubuntu 18.04)
Glad to announce that switching to Ubuntu 18.10 did the trick. After installing some 3rd party extensions to return to legacy type system trays on Ubuntu 18.04 it didn't like my version of Libssl-dev and now things just work out by magic.

RE: Linux Client Installation(Ubuntu 18.04)
Good morning,

Just had this issue after upgrading to ubuntu 18.04, I confirm that installing TopIcons plus Gnome shell extension did the trick. But installing it is not straightforward.

It required to install the firefox Gnome Shell extension, and to prevent this :

It is necessary to install the package ''chrome-gnome-shell''
Code:
sudo apt install chrome-gnome-shell

Then whatpulse worked, although the system tray icon is not together with the other applications.

Very strange way to use the browser to install a desktop feature....
