Windows Activation Technologies (WAT) is a feature in Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows Server 2016 that allows Microsoft to verify that a copy of Windows is genuine. WAT does this by verifying that the installed copy of Windows has a valid license. If the license is not valid, then Windows will not start.
